The Kinks – The Village Green Preservation Society
Primal Scream – Don”™t Fight It, Feel It
Orbital – The Girl With The Sun In Her Head

Wordy stuff
Belated greetings. I”™ve been promising the boys this for weeks so here it is. I started trying to compile a lot of my obscure favourites that I thought not many would have heard before but was foiled because it seems Spotify hasn”™t heard of them either. So I decided to go with just some tracks I like, regardless.
It starts off a bit psychedelic, then some indie (including The Auteurs which are my all time favs) with a heavy nod to the great Creation Records, then just some favourites in an eclectic ending. Some highlights include Martin Carr swapping his plectrum for a razor blade on C”™Mon Kids, Johnny Marr slipping effortlessly through the gears on The Queen Is Dead, classic Suede and The Cure and Primal Scream at their drugged up best. The rest are mainly a list of my favourite bands or albums and one song that I think is a good representation of said band or album.
Most are going back to my days (or should that be nights) at Uni where I gained a 1st in music and slightly less than that for my real degree.
Enjoy kids.
RIP Alex Chiltern, Big Star (Dec 28 1950 ”“ Mar 17 2010)
Morning kids. Today we must raise a toast to our fallen comrade, Thom, who for reasons outside of his control has to spend the day music-less at work. Hell on Earth, friends.
Today”™s playlist is amazing! Brilliant! The best playlist we”™ve ever had! It”™s also by our boss, Alex Hedley (please don”™t fire us, sir!). All joking aside, it”™s a cracker – ta, dude.
Also, for those with the new, shiny, spangly updated Spotify, feel free to add me – I”™m currently sharing every single Spotisfaction playlist, tagged with the person who submitted it and in date order. Go me!

Another Morning Stoner”¦”¦. – And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead
Morning all. Rockin”™ weekend – I decorated my bathroom, which mainly involved using a massive hammer drill and listening to Huey Morgan on 6 Music. Something very primal about drilling massive holes in puny, pathetic little plasterboard”¦ I got a bit carried away and now the wall looks like Swiss cheese. I AM DIY GOD.
Sadly, today is Monday (as you are, no doubt, aware), and as such we need a playlist that”™s going to get us out of our self-induced doldrums. Thankfully, I think we”™ve got just the one”¦
I present to you Alli Fletcher and Paul Pritchard, tag-team extraordinaire. Oh, and Alli – I still want a solo playlist please ;)

Some quick and dirty hightlights.
First up is Iggy Pop with “Lust for Life”. Remember the film Trainspotting? Yeah, that”™s right.
With that behind us, we move on the more traditional part of the playlist. People have commented that “Masses Against The Classes” wouldn”™t be their first Manic Street Preachers choice. However, I love playing this on guitar, it”™s a vitriolic release to me, simple and straight ahead. As such, just listening to it to exercise any negative thoughts that I may succumb to during the day.
Similar story with “Caught By The Fuzz” by Supergrass. I”™ve got a soft spot for Supergrass and this track always makes me bounce around.
“Animal Nitrate” by Suede makes an appearance here to silence my boss, who was highly critical of my last Suede choice being “Filmstar”, due to the fact it was from the post-Butler era. No matter what he says, Coming Up was a fantastic album and a big hats off to Richard Oakes for stepping up to the plate back in the day.
“Once” by Pearl Jam is on there for two reasons. Firstly, being a huge Nirvana fan when I was a kid, I was dead set against Eddie Vedder. Eventually gave Ten a listen to and kicked myself over and over again for being so closed minded. Never again. Secondly, this track has helped me through some pretty dark times in my life. It also leads into the next stage of the playlist”¦ grunge.
Okay, so Ash aren”™t grunge. But Mudhoney were, and Ash were pretty big fans of Grunge back in the day. Hence this awesome cover of “Who You Drivin”™ Now”. It”™s catchy, it”™s catchy. Could do with some more fuzz, though. Big Muffage! Oh did I mention that growing up both Ash and Mudhoney were two of my favourite bands? There is another band that I”™m a fan of too – and that band is Sonic Youth. Keeping in with the Mudhoney connection, you”™ll also find their cover of “Touch Me, I”™m Sick” on this playlist.
Soundgarden”™s 4th July is quite personal for me, but I won”™t go into why. I love the tuning in this song, Christ the entire track gives me shivers.
Many people seem to see Nirvana as a guilty pleasure these days. This is wrong. There was a reason that they were so successful and that is because Kurt was a fantastic songwriter. This song, entitled “Sappy” was probably written as early as 1987, yet never featured on any album. It was recorded a bunch of times at various studios but Kurt was never happy with the results. In my eyes the definitive version was the version recorded with Albini at Pachyderm Studios in 1993. However, this version doesn”™t appear to be on Spotify so you will have to listen to the Jack Endino recording instead. Yes, I could get a job as a Nirvana historian I know.
I”™m going to leave this here. But all I will say is “Bro Hymn” by Pennywise. It is fantastic. I wish they had the tribute version on here, but alas they don”™t.
No apologies for today, my friends. Today”™s playlist I class as easy listening, as it is a Friday and everyone needs to get some weekend up inside their guts. So that is the way it is.
It”™s Friday the 23rd of April. This means a number of things. First, a big shout out to Sean Ferguson, who will be celebrating his birthday tonight. Guess where? The Railway, Cheltenham which also happens to be a Cheltenham Underground night. Today is chock full of good reasons to go down to the Railway and have yourself a super mega fun time. Playing tonight at the Underground are such fantastic acts as Stressechos, Men Diamler and Mark Hole – check the link about for the full bill.
Right, enough guff let”™s get to the good stuff. Once again, thank you for listening, submitting, commenting and just being generally awesome.

This is a demonstration of how my musical taste has changed and developed over the years since i started listening to music. Tracks 1-3 (age 10-14)
I apologise for the first track but i remember that PJ and Duncan – Psyche was the first album I ever owned (on tape). I thought I was cool. Turned out I was wrong. I also remember my sister owning Twist and shout on vinyl and listening to it constantly. As for renegade master it”™s a track that is good (even to this day) at high volume.
Tracks 4-12 (age 15-18)
I spent this time in an exceptionally bad band. hence minority. we covered it. (there should be some blink 182 here as well but spotify didnt have it). Also I was heavily involved in my school christian union which explains the bit of christian music (Steve, Delirious? and DC Talk). My ever my all is (in my opinion) a perfect indie style track. Guitar led with somr interesting twiddly bits. And then like any good teenager I started listening to Nu-Metal.
Tracks 13-23 (age 19-22) While I was at university my CD collection increased from 30 CDs to just under 1000. There is a lot of music in there but this is the pick of it. There is a selection of Ska punk from DJing at the local punk night. Richard Cheese and Weird Al have made some awful tracks in their time but these 2 I personally think are inch perfect comedy covers. And then yet more nu-metal from being Vice President of the uni Rock society. I hasten to add that these tracks are of a slightly better quality nu-metal than the earlier tracks. I suppose thats all personal opinion mind.
Tracks 23-34 (age 23-25)
In this time I DJ”™d in a (slightly alternative) Dingy night club. Hence the fairly popular guitar led Rock. Dimension and Hundred Mile city are both examples of songs built round astonishing guitar riffs. I never get bored of the way the Ocean Colour Scene track starts. The Living End are an underratred australian punk three piece. I discovered them through the guitar hero game but the rest of their back catalogue is well worth a listen aswell.
The next 5 tracks are what I like to call ”˜volume”™ tracks. On the whole I dont like them much. But when played at ear bleeding volume in a club they are excellent.
Tracks 35-38 (age 25 – old) I quit my job in the club and decided I wanted cheerful music with a tune and less swearing for my baby to listen to. You can not go wrong with old Rock n Roll and Rythmn and Blues. I can listen to this sort of thing all day. Amazing vocals and nobody is trying too hard to do interesting and new things. Its very simple but brilliant.
I want to add I still listen to all of this music. I never get tired of any of it. in fact i”™m off to listen to Limp Bizkit. Brilliant.
Morning all you beautiful people. Today we”™ve got a real treat for you. I really love it when people theme their playlists – me? I”™m rubbish. I try and get them to flow, but I never really have a decent theme for any of mine. This one, however, has inspired me to create a similar one of my own and I hope it offers inspiration to yourselves, too.
So here”™s Simon Mogg: father, husband, video game tsar, and genuinely beautiful man.
Love, David
Hey Dave,
Not sure if this is the sort of thing you”™re looking for. Not exactly music that”™ll be new to people but it is very personal. I wont be offended if you dont use it. Either way I”™ve enjoyed compiling it.

This playlist is simply a compilation of tracks that I love. Track by track:
I Wanna Be Adored – One of the best album openers of all time from one of the best albums of all time. What better track to sit at the top of my first playlist.
Alone, together – I love The Strokes first album and this is a great track. I love the way the song builds. The last 30 seconds are particularly cool.
Mirror Kissers – This track reminds me of the first time I saw The Cribs live. They are a great band, full of energy and full of tunes.
As above, so below – I”™m not a massive fan of Klaxons but I love this tune from Myths of the Near Future.
This Momentary – I like Delphic. I”™ve been listening to their album a lot in the car. This track is one of the highlights.
True Faith – I love the lyrics to this tune. I also love the tune. Beautiful.
Situation – One of my favourite electronic tracks of all time.
Empire Ants – Highlight off the new Gorillaz album. Beautiful track from what is in my opinion album of the year so far.
Can You Give It – I like the video to this track as it focuses around the cheese rolling event in Gloucester. It”™s also a decent tune.
Evening/Morning – I love the guitar on this tune. Another band I have been listening to a lot on my commute recently.
Secret Door – Superb track from Arctic Monkeys best album to date.
The Boy With The Thorn In His Side – A beautiful classic, plain and simple.
Last Broadcast – This track reminds me of the time I met my wife. It was a good summer!
Heart of Gold – Classic! Love the harmonica.
All Apologies – I love this track, particularly this version taken from their MTV Unplugged set.
Picture Book – Takes me back to my childhood.
Cousins – This track is quite hectic but I love it. The video is great too!
Muzzle #1 – The Whip are a great band. Seen them live a few times now. They were particularly awesome on a wet Friday morning at Glastonbury last year and got the crowd going. Then the sun came out. This is a highlight from X Marks Destination.
A Forest – A beautifully haunting track.
Monkey Man – I love the guitar playing onthis track.Tin Soldier – Classic! I love the drums on this.
Pretty Little Ditty – Reminds me of hot summer days when I was supposed to be revising for my GCSE”™s. Lovely guitar tone.Long Time Coming – One word, Summer!!
Nature Springs – I adore The Good, The Bad and The Queen album and to be honest could have put any of the tracks from it in this list. One of the albums of the last decade.
Glory Box – This track used to get played a lot on the jukebox in my local during the 90”™s. It reminds me of being pissed and stoned and brings a smile to my face whenever I hear it.
Yeah, hello. It”™s Wednesday. I”™m feeling rather apathetic in general today so you”™ll excuse me for not performing virtual fellatio on each and every one of you ingrates in this mornings news post. Ha, Dave just called me an arsehole. What a prick. Anyway, enough of the banter and on with what is important in life – music. We”™ve had a few more excellent submissions that I”™m pretty hyped about running. Just to let everyone know, we”™ve abandoned running playlists in the order that they are submitted. The reasoning behind this should be easy enough to understand. We”™re trying to keep the playlists varied, so we are going to try not to run similar playlists back to back. Don”™t worry, however. ALL SUBMISSIONS WILL BE PUBLISHED. I swear on my Fender Jaguar, my Harajuku sunglasses and my hearing. Oh and er, keep up the submissions. Your submissions sustain me.
Right, today we have the fine young man with the handle of Rich Young stepping up to provide something to help us get one step closer to the weekend. So a big thanks to Rich for providing the soundtrack to Wednesday! Go Rich!

Good evening all. Being a musical troglodyte compared to most of you, I”™ve started simple and put into my mix the music I”™ve listened to most over the past 6 years. I”™ve only put in one track per artist otherwise it”™d be a very dull list. There are some notable absences. Arcade Fire (The Arcade Fire? Discuss) would have been there if Spotify had it. I”™m pretty sure no one else is going to like them all but also that there will be at least one track on there you do. They may not flow seamlessly but I love them all. Here”™s the listing and below some sort of explanation. And here”™s the link”¦

Talking Heads ”“ Once In A Lifetime
Los Campesinos! ”“ You! Me! Dancing!
Rage Against The Machine ”“ Killing In The Name
Modest Mouse ”“ The Good Times Are Killing Me
The Undertones ”“ Teenage Kicks
Blur ”“ Song 2
The Killers ”“ Mr. Brightside
The Knife ”“ Heartbeats
London Symphony Orchestra ”“ The Planets, Op. 32: I. Mars, The Bringer Of War
LCD Soundsystem ”“ All my Friends
System Of A Down ”“ B.Y.O.B.
Bloc Party ”“ Flux
David Bowie ”“ I”™m Afraid Of Americans (V1) (Radio Edit Of Trent Reznor Mix)
Rob Dougan ”“ Clubbed To Death – Kurayamino Variation
Antony & The Johnsons ”“ Hope There”™s Someone
David Gray ”“ Babylon
London Music Works ”“ 28 Days Later – In The House-In A Heartbeat
Willy Mason ”“ Oxygen
The Streets ”“ Don”™t Mug Yourself
U2 ”“ Beautiful Day
The Buzzcocks ”“ Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn”™t”™ve)?
There you go and now for my defence.
Eels ”“ Hey Man (Now You”™re Really Living).
I don”™t know about you but the daily grind can really get me down. I love this song for the way in which it reminds me that life is life. There isn”™t a do over option and there”™s no such thing as not really living so enjoy it. That goes for if its kissing a beautiful girl or crying your heart out. These emotional aspects remind you that your living so chin up and keep on going.
Johnny Cash ”“ Solitary Man.
It”™s the man in black which is a great start and also it a great “I”™ve been alone for so long” anthem. Everything in its time and until then me and Johnny will keep singing along.
Kanye West ”“ Jesus Walks
Don”™t really have a story for this one. Just one of the first tracks I bought on itunes so got muchos plays on the system before I had a chance to add more music.
She Wants Revenge ”“ Tear You Apart
This is a bit of a cheat. I actually wanted to put on a mash up of Tear you apart and Love will tear us apart by A + D. (Strongly recommend A + D for some quality mash ups) but quelle surprise Spotify doesn”™t have it. So I went for the lesser known track and bunged it on here.
Malcolm Middleton ”“ We”™re All Going To Die
A failed Christmas number one campaign a few years back brought this to my attention. Its vein of black humour appealed to me as did the tune.
Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star ”“ Weird Fishes Arpeggi
I wanted the original here but again Spotify let me down. No matter. Have a lullaby instead
The Polyphonic Spree ”“ Light & Day/Reach For The Sun
Happy clappy chappies to make you feel good. It makes it seem like the sun is shining even on those days when the clouds are there and its chucking down cats and dogs
The Cinematic Underground ”“ My Dear Self
A haunting melody and lyrics about the necessity for human interaction and companionship. Love how it ties into the down feelings when feeling alone. And on a juvenile level the masturbation joke towards the end is good too.
Pixies ”“ Where Is My Mind?
The closing track to one of the best films ever. A cutting satire on the nature of manhood in the modern world or an excuse for Brad Pitt to punch people in the face? You decide. Would have also loved to have had the “This is your life” track from the soundtrack too. About the fleeting nature of existence and how it all ending. For some reason it cheers me up but doesn”™t motivate me to do much.
Damien Rice ”“ Cannonball
Again no story. I just like it.
Talking Heads ”“ Once In A Lifetime
I remember hearing this at some point as a youngster but for the life of me can”™t remember where. I wasn”™t until about the age of 18 I managed to find out what that part remembered song lurking at the back of my head was and for it to become a fine favourite. Again another song about life and what it chucks at you. Hmm maybe this is a themed list after all.
Los Campesinos! ”“ You! Me! Dancing!
I listened to this album on repeat whilst writing my dissertation. This was great for a break at 3am in a little study room in the library. Put it on, bop about a bit and then go back to staring at a screen not really knowing about what your talking about. Ahh Good times.
Rage Against The Machine ”“ Killing In The Name
Great for angry dancing in the basement at Bradford University. Get all those anti social tendencies out in a safe manner then go back to being a more pleasant human without actually telling people to F. Off.
Modest Mouse ”“ The Good Times Are Killing Me
Let”™s just say that I do have a hedonistic side and leave it at that.
The Undertones ”“ Teenage Kicks
If John Peel(God Bless his soul) rates it then its at least worth a moment of your time. It harks back to teenage years even if your teenage years weren”™t as cool as the song makes them sound, as mine surely weren”™t.
Blur ”“ Song 2
Another good jump around the room song.
The Killers ”“ Mr. Brightside
This is great for belting out on a dancefloor and having a good old sing along to in the car. No deeper reason than that.
The Knife ”“ Heartbeats
I want to say Jose Mourinho released a cover of this a few years back but have a feeling that I”™m slightly confused there [Editor”™s note: It was on the album “The Special One Sings The Blues”, I think – Dave]. As much as I love covers its always good to go back to the original every so often.
London Symphony Orchestra ”“ The Planets, Op. 32: I. Mars, The Bringer Of War
We can all thank my dad for this choice. He had this on tape back when I was a wee lad and I”™ve loved it ever since. The bombast and driving rhythm behind it are just engrossing and captivating. The whole suite is brilliant but this is my favourite part of it all.
LCD Soundsystem ”“ All my Friends
Another good track to remind you of the good times when you”™re mates are far away.
System Of A Down ”“ B.Y.O.B.
Shouting sing along action again.
Bloc Party ”“ Flux
Again no real story
David Bowie ”“ I”™m Afraid Of Americans (V1) (Radio Edit Of Trent Reznor Mix)
I love the multi layering of the sound in this track and also the idea of Bowie fleeing screaming every time an American pops their head around the door.
Rob Dougan ”“ Clubbed To Death – Kurayamino Variation
You may know this from a little film called “The Matrix” but Rod Dougan”™s whole album is worth checking out.
Antony & The Johnsons ”“ Hope There”™s Someone
Hauntingly beautiful song which builds and builds until it explodes towards the end. I think this is another one from the early days of Itunes and I loved it so much I bought the album too. Album not as good but still worth a listen.
David Gray ”“ Babylon
Not sure why this is here. Still a catchy song
London Music Works ”“ 28 Days Later – In The House-In A Heartbeat
This song does seem to have its own heartbeat and after hearing it in the background of various adverts and trailers I tracked it down and am always willing to be swept away by it.
Willy Mason ”“ Oxygen
A less shouty sing along one here. I want to describe the pum ta pum pum beat as one of the things I like about this but don”™t think that is going to translate. Feel free to ignore that bit.
The Streets ”“ Don”™t Mug Yourself
Another driving beat behind this one. Its got the feeling of hanging out with your mates shooting the breeze and ragging on each other whenever you can.
U2 ”“ Beautiful Day
Another sing along one here which I don”™t associate with the football which is probably just as well.
The Buzzcocks ”“ Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn”™t”™ve)
I know I have. And I”™ll be surprised at anyone who claims differently.
Morning chaps. Working the late shift is all kinds of awesome. Woke up without the usual blind “ah crap I”™m late” panic, managed to grab some breakfast and a coffee (a rarity, let me tell you), had a play with the kitties and listened to some music before coming to work. Bliss. Downside? I”™m stuck here until 7pm tonight. You win some, you lose some.
Anyway, today”™s mix is by the powerhouse that is Rhys Howell (@Ghop56 on Twitter – bully him into posting some more), a guy I”™ve known for many years now. Don”™t let that put you off.

I know I have. And I”™ll be surprised at anyone who claims differently.
I”™m Rik and I know a few of the lads through school (Thom, Neil and JB) we spent most of our 6 years together either accusing each other of being gay in increasingly creative ways or saving up spit for an entire double English lesson then smashing two full cheeks worth of saliva all over each other”™s blazers. We were also rather fond of swearing all over our exercise books with phrases such as “Suck my fat willy ladies” or “Good evening. Would you like to see my ball bag?” Quite simply, time very well spent. [Editors note: I also remember the phrase “I”™ll have a big bulls willy and chips, please” was scrawled on Rik”™s pencil case during a particularly frantic Business Studies lesson – Thom].
We also spent a lot of time listening to music, watching late night Eurotrash and pissing about with computers. Whilst Thom and Neil put these skills to good use and went into computers, I went to uni and spent most of my time sleeping and wanking before getting my old DIY store job back after I ran out of money in 6 months (Dont worry I eventually got a proper job, i.e. one that destroys my soul every minute I”™m there”¦.) Again music”™s been a constant and people no matter how rough things get, listen to a few tracks you dig and I guarantee you wont feel as bad.
So here”™s my random playlist of bands I like or unloved classics (I couldn”™t resist putting Journey in there purely because its the end credits for the Larry Burns episode of the Simpsons and sums up the end to almost all of the shite 80”™s films i love). Enjoy my lovely little sluts.

“A playlist so random its highly likely Thom may shit himself through fear.”
Happy Monday, proles. I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend, I know I did. The best, in fact. I”™m so goddamn lucky it hurts. But enough of that right now, we”™re here for the music.
Do you know, I”™ve waited so long to get this mix up. I really have. Today is the perfect day to run it. A sunny Monday. Looking at the playlist, it is going to kick the mundane right out of Monday and make you music so hard your fingernails grow an inch. Yes, I just used “music” as a verb. Now, I will leave you in the plesant company of the living legend that is, Rikki M. Hill, esq.
I”™ve not got much of a blurb today, to be perfectly honest (fun fact: above”™s lyrics were ”˜donated”™ by Thom when I told him I was blurbless). I”™m going to spend the day watching the leaders debate (which, stupidly, I managed to miss last night) and trying to imagine I”™m in hawaii like that fat dude in Street Fighter: The Movie when he”™s being whipped by that other dude with a whip. Sweet whipping action, whip dude.
All I”™ll say is that I”™m not 100% happy with the first few tracks of the playlist, and given more time I”™d have changed them. Stick with it, though, as it gets much much better.

Andy says:
So apparently making a playlist is not enough. Words are also required. So where to start? Whatever way you swing there should be something on here for you, Bass, beats and strings are all here.
Some standout tracks on here would have to be:
“Sweet Disposition” The Temper Trap. It”™s a great uplifting track perfect to pick you up.
“Electrolove” Minor Majority. Meloncoly at its best. If Emo kids could get over themselves they”™d get a haircut and listen to this.
“Quiet Little Voices” We Were Promised Jet Packs. Simply great, the composition on this is perfect.
“Hip Hop” Dead Prez. If you don”™t know this then you”™ve been living under a rock for the last 10 years. This still gets remixed today, Zane Lowe is a big fan.
“Pass Out” Tinie Tempah. Really into this track at the moment, bonus points for getting a mention in for Scunthorpe.
“Slow Songs” Giggs ft. Mike Skinner. Anything Mike touches turns to gold and he”™s helped produce an amazing track here with Giggs. Giggs will certainly be making a big name for himself, he”™s one to watch out for.
“Pon De Floor” Major Lazer. Just listen to it, you”™ll be hooked. Great use of effects.
Evening kids! You know, someone once told me that pesto was made out of stinging nettles. It was only recently I found out that they lied. It”™s a sad, demoralising world we live in when a man can innocently believe that a delicious accompaniment to pasta is something that it”™s not. To make myself feel better, I”™m OD”™ing on The Depreciation Guild. They right all wrongs, kids. Listen. Listen now.
Oh! Heard a pretty epic put-down today, and thought I”™d share:
James (posturing around like the elitist asshole he is): You”™re the punchbag, and I”™m”¦ what”™s the opposite?
Neil: The douchebag
Ouch.
Anyway, here”™s today”™s playlist courtesy of Mr. Andrew McKenzie.

I”™m glad it”™s Wednesday. I made a playlist. This one will probably split people down the middle. There will be those that hate it and there will be those that show indifference. There will also be those that curse the use of short sentences in this opening blurb. But those would be bad people. Bad.
I”™m not going to give a blow by blow blurbage of what the jiminy this playlist is about. I will however say that it is a bunch of tracks (some we know so well, some we know less so well) that have inspired me to write music over the last few weeks. The stuff I”™ve been writing recently is very heavily influenced by the styles contained in this list. So plug in, listen up and enjoy.

It seems that Dave and Thom rather enjoyed my first playlist, so I now have the challenge of emulating that and coming up with another one that doesn”™t disappoint. This time round I thought I”™d get some inspiration from the bands/artists that I”™ve had the privilege of seeing live in concert over the last year or so.
What better way to begin than with my latest outing to see Four Tet, with support from Nathan Fake. Wowzers, what a combo! From Four Tet”™s new album we have “Love Cry”, which starts off fairly stark and empty, but over the course of the track more and more elements are added and it gradually metamorphoses into a cacophony of aural bliss. The experimental qualities of these first two tracks are the perfect set-up for more of the same in the next track, which comes in the form of “Shrimp” by Mr Scruff. I had the pleasure of seeing Scruff with Dave, and the large alcohol intake that ensued made sure our knees were certainly wobbling by the end of the night!
Strictly speaking, I haven”™t seen Soulwax. However, I have seen them under the guise of 2 Many DJs, and what an audio-visual feast that was. Spotify currently doesn”™t contain any of their work (which really needs to be rectified) so I decided to go with the Soulwax “Too Many DJs” track instead.
Supporting Lykke Li was Yoav, an Israeli guy armed with nothing more than an acoustic guitar and a couple of effects pedals, yet he was able to cleverly concoct some pretty funky electronica-style beats. I thoroughly enjoyed his set, and then he went and pulled this doozy of a track out of the bag as the finale ”“ a chilling and vacuous rendition of “Where Is My Mind?” by The Pixies that will send a shiver down your spine.
I love Zero 7, I really do, and I had high hopes when I went to see them live. Sadly, they just didn”™t live up to my expectations, and I would probably go as far as to say it was one of the most disappointing gigs I”™ve been to. A lot of the stuff they played was off “Yeah Ghost”, which I hadn”™t heard at the time, but even the older stuff that I did recognise they somehow seemed to butcher. It may have been better if Sia had been able to join them, but alas she was off touring elsewhere. Anyways, enough of my grievances, have a listen to “This Fine Social Scene”.
Speaking of fine social scenes, how about some of the broken variety? (Do you see what I did there?) OK, so I tell a lie, I haven”™t actually seen Broken Social Scene live yet, but after bagging some tickets to see them in June I just couldn”™t resist throwing this cheeky little number into the mix in anticipation.
La Roux, Delphic, Two Door Cinema Club and The Whip have all had releases on the Kitsune label so it kinda made sense to bundle them together. After seeing La Roux before she became popular I don”™t really understand how she managed to get so famous. I don”™t think she can sing very well at all, but there are some pretty good remixes of her stuff floating around.
I love going to gigs where the support act turns out to be equally as good as, if not better, than the main headliner. Electro-geeks Errors and Filthy Dukes, who were supporting Forward Russia and Secret Machines respectively, are both prime examples of this. Errors kicked off the gig with “Mr. Milk” to a virtually empty crowd, but people soon started to gather once they realised the musical treats emanating from the stage. And Forward Russia were very entertaining as well. The lead singer is completely and utterly mental, and was literally swinging from the rafters at one point.
So that”™s pretty much it for this one. There was a lot more I wanted to include but I”™ll probably save them for future playlists.
Yes, I”™m back to life due to the miracles of music, sunshine, nano-machines and a cyborg exoskeleton. Before I forget, make sure you come down to The Cheltenham Underground this Friday (I believe it”™s the 16th) to check out New Rising; Phil King and Men Diamler. Those of you who have spoken to me for more than 5 minutes know I hold Men Diamler as the benchmark for live performances. You simply have to check him out before you die. In addition to him you”™ll get another two bands of awesome to watch, listen and tap your toes to. So make sure you go. Right, I”™m still not feeling 100% so less of the jabber from me and more of the wobble from Fozz. Go!

Today”™s a very very busy one for me, so I”™ll be brief. We have a wicked playlist today by the wonderful Ben Hawling, a man whom I”™d definitely date if I were a girl.

This time I thought I”™d go back to my guitar roots after my previous Hip Hop outing”¦ This list is a mixture of guitar rock, none of it too heavy but I felt a good mix of styles from heavy fuzzing Detroit blues, classic rock, deep desert rock and in between.
All the artists in this list I”™ve got a deep respect for their overall sound and energy, yes even the mighty Quo which manage to sneak in as I like to keep it dynamic and I think they are hard done by reputation wise. Turn on, Tune In, Crank it up to 11 and most of all”¦.
There really aren”™t enough hours in the day. I, like so many others, have a day job. A day job that has grown dull and uninspiring. This is part of the reason David and I started Spotisfaction. The problem now is, I spend so much time listening to your awesome submissions, hearing some new and fantastic music (as well as going out and checking out live music) that i don”™t have enough time to read up on the latest news, check out other peoples music blogs or anything like that. I”™m starting to think that I need to do something music related as a profession. If anyone has any ideas, let me know.
So today then. David and I were browsing what to put up today, we”™ve got some quality submissions and we”™re trying to make them varied on a day to day basis. Being a Friday, seeing that the sun is out and I”™m not feeling 100% healthy at the moment, I needed something uplifting. Something that would rock out and wash over any bad vibes I had about today. I knew when I saw my favourite Breeders track on Battin”™s playlist that we would be running his today. So here it is and I hope you”™re going to enjoy it.

::START MESSAGE:: Awesome weather today. I drive past a cemetery on the way to work – something tragic yet wonderfully beautiful about a cemetery in the sun. We should be outside, with friends, listening to fabulous music and instead we”™re stuck here, wasting away. Withering like unwatered plants craning their fragile leaves to see the sun which remains sadly out of reach”¦ Pub? ::END MESSAGE::

Following a conversation with the super nice Kevin Atkinson I thought I”™d get to work on compiling a hip-hop playlist to reveal my previously fairly well hidden inner b-boy.
Television Drug Of The Nation – Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy
It”™s Tricky – RUN-DMC
She Watch Channel Zero?! – Public Enemy
Yes, For most of my life I have harboured a bit of a hidden love for a bit of the ole hip-hoppity thing. Except for the last 3-4 years, when I have hardly listened to any due to being disillusioned with the whole genre. I have been truly rediscovering an old flame in the last couple of days while I have been compiling this for which I give big props (whatever that means!). It”™s topped and tailed by Public Enemy, who, in my opinion are the greatest rap act of all time. I”™ve tried to let it flow for the most part though you may disagree. It”™s mostly old stuff but with a couple of new discoveries (Daleks, La Rumeur) to modernise it a bit. BDP track is truly awesome and Ya Mama by The Pharcyde is such an infectiously good time call and response track. I remember seeing them perform it on The Word many years back and being blown away. MF Doom plays a big part in the Madvillain and Dangerdoom pieces and is probably my favourite current mc. It”™s Tricky by Run Dmc, truly awesome and broke ground for guitar based backing tracks which popped up many times in the future.
Oi oi! Do you want a treat? Do you want one? Do you want a treat all up in your ear-slits like roaches, germs, mice, lice, termites and percunious bugs? This is the playlist for Wednesday by the one, the only, the super slick motherfucker that is Paul Pritchard. I”™ll hand you over to the man now, and he can fill you right in, just as you like it.
