Sup. So, recently we”™ve had some lovely feedback about Spotisfaction but it feels as if the submissions are gradually slowing down and I think it”™s a good idea to try and address how we can improve things for you guys. What we”™d like to ask is the following question:
If Spotisfaction could have one more feature, what would it be?
To help, I”™ll share some comments we recently received.
I think you guys have done a really good job in starting a community here and I like supporting that however I could. In that respect I think you could actually open up what Spotisfaction ”˜is”™, or rather ”˜does”™ – it is quintessentially about sharing music, and so the mixes should remain integral to what it does, but you can suppliment and expand the community by opening up to community journalism and that sort of thing. You could write one on the Digital Rights Bill, for example, [or] an article on the expansion of Spotify in general, and the impact the new facebook and personal library integration the new update has. We could definitely kick something like this off!
Further thoughts: People could submit album reviews, perhaps only for albums that are on Spotify so that you don”™t break the spotify-4th-wall, so to speak. Similarly, you could do artist overviews, in a similar way to Allmusic so that you”™re literally building a Spotisfaction editorial/journalistic community, all tied in by the fact it can be instantly listened to through Spotify
Would people be interested in something like this? If we were to open up Spotisfaction to such submissions, are there many of you that would submit articles to us?
Just a thought to get the ol”™ creative juices flowing – all other suggestions are gratefully received!
I”™m not one for speeches so I will keep this sort,
The inspiration behind this mix come from a few places, Songs I listened too while growing up that will never be out-dated, Song”™s I have seen electrify a dance floor with their killer build ups and songs that I can kick back to on a evening and just chill too.
Thom”™s away on holiday today (lucky sod) so I”™m holding the fort at Spotisfaction Towers. Not gonna lie, I”™ve been hella busy today. So busy, in fact, that I”™ve lost all sense of dignity and have used ”˜hella”™ in a sentence. Shame on me. However, we have a playlist designed to sort that out, courtesy of Mr Richard Brittain.
It”™s a bit of a departure for us (ie not indie or electro), but as is the aim of Spotisfaction it”™s lifted my little soul and brought a wry grin to my handsomely chiseled jaw. Rawr.

Evening all again. I”™ve gone for a themed list here. The theme is “James Bond Artists but not James Bond Songs”. I think that”™s pretty self explanatory.
Here”™s the excuses.
1) Sorry that there is so much Shirley Bassey but she did do 3 Bond theme tunes. And I was aiming for a song per film
2) I”™ve only done the official films. Feel free to argue about the canon in the comments
3) No real theme song for Dr. No so took John Barry as the artist for the James Bond Theme and went from there
4) Just went for Paul McCartney rather than Wings
5) Check out the youtube literal version of Take on Me if you haven”™t already.
Here”™s the link Track Listing
John Barry ”“ Midnight Cowboy
Matt Monro ”“ No Puedo Quitar Mis Ojos De Ti (Can”™t Take my Eyes Off You)
Shirley Bassey ”“ History Repeating
Tom Jones ”“ Kiss
Nancy Sinatra ”“ Shot You Down (Album Version) (Feat. Nancy Sinatra)
Louis Armstrong ”“ La Vie En Rose
Shirley Bassey ”“ Kiss Me Honey Honey (Kiss Me)
Paul McCartney ”“ Paperback Writer – Live at CitiField, NYC – Digital Audio
Lulu ”“ Feelin”™ Alright – LP Version 2006 Remastered
Carly Simon ”“ You”™re So Vain – Live
Shirley Bassey ”“ Killing Me Softly With His Song

Rita Coolidge ”“ I Want To Know What Love Is
Duran Duran ”“ Ordinary World

Madonna ”“ Ray Of Light
Chris Cornell ”“ Ground Zero
Alicia Keys ”“ Empire State Of Mind (Part II) Broken Down
Af”™noon all. I hope your weekends were as lovely as mine (and that they were less of a drain on the ol”™ coffers). I”™m on the early shift, so am off home in t-minus 10 minutes”¦ this means Monday has been fine!
Today”™s mix is from Rhys, and it”™s a wicked theme in my opinion.
Call to arms: We really need some more submissions as the cupboards are getting a little bare. If you”™ve got something in the pipeline, get it in to us yo! Hell, we”™ll even help finish it if you”™ve got an idea and lack the time to finish it.

Secondly, tonight is a Cheltenham Underground night. Get down to The Frog & Fiddle in Cheltenham for 8pm tonight to see the delights of Midnight Mile and Blackberry Wood. Details of the event can be found here. As usual it”™s £4 entry. Get on down and have some fun times.
Okay, so there we have it. Get adding your tracks to the playlist today. I look forward to hearing them. If you feel the need to justify your tracks, add some comments below.

As an aside, how do you all think Spotisfaction is going? As I stood on my faux-balcony this morning, having my post wake-up cigarette I wondered what the future had in store for this blog. Is radio dead? Are people so saturated with music choice that they have no idea what to listen to? What makes music journalists so damn snooty they think they can decree the success of otherwise of a band with their sub-par, horribly subjective and bland reviews? I”™m getting the tickle that states something must be done. This summer, we have to take some kind of action. Please upload your ideas into my brain along with a bit of alcohol so I can get something moving.
Three is a prime number and today”™s playlist is nothing if not prime. (However please note that there is no Primus on today”™s playlist). See if you can spot the theme here. Answers on a postcard.
Today myself, David and our evil minion Kev decided to stick 10 tracks each onto a collaboration and share it with the world. Or at least the part of the world that cares.
Coming up next week we”™ve got a variety of fantastic guest playlists to stir things up a bit. We”™re still waiting for a few submissions to trickle in (John Brobyn, I”™m looking at you here) so hurry your pants and get them in.

Smokebelch II (Beatless Mix) – The Sabres Of Paradise
This is just a small selection of what I”™ve loved to listen to throughout this thing we call life along with a couple of things that I”™m liking currently. The first track is one of the most giddy uplifting tracks you can ever hear, and the second takes me back to my school days, the days of dandruff and mullets (for me anyway, ahem..). Endtroducing has to be one of my all time favourite records and Midnight in a Perfect world is a perfect encapsulation of the wonder that is DJ Shadow. Had to put Sparklehorse in (R I P Mark Linkous), truly genius. I liked Chapterhouse for about 40 minutes in 1991 whilst peering laconically through a very long fringe but this is an ace track I”™ve just rediscovered, .
The Besnard Lakes are new to me and I”™m loving this album at the moment, it has an epic spacious feel about it which greatly appeals to me. Low very much being an obvious influence on them had to follow. All rounded off with an ambient classic I preferred the original with beats but it ain”™t on here, the album Sabresonic is well worth a listen even if it is ancient now.
Hope my submission is an enjoyable one, I have much enjoyed checking out other playlists and have picked up a couple of new acts to follow which is what i like. Adios an”™ ting.
Guys, girls and northerners. Apologies for the delay in today”™s Spotisfaction. David and I are currently trialling a later update to afford us some more free time in the morning. It works for us, let”™s see if it works for you.
Today”™s mixtape of the virtual kind is from our good friend (and generally slick muddyfunster) Paul P, who obviously knows his way around the music. Turn left here, down that dark alley, ooh, check out that little shop, it does the best dango. Mmm, dango. I just ate a tomato. I was hoping that when I bit into it, tomato juice would shoot out and hit David right in his ear. You know, RIGHT IN HIS EARHOLE. But it didn”™t. Instead it went all over my beard, hands and keyboard. I blame David for this, and he will soon know the full extent of my wrath. Because he”™ll read this news post. Yes, David, I will have my revenge. Revenge is a dish best served with mint sauce. Like cous cous.

Yo! Good afternoon, wondrous people. Day 2 of the week. This playlist was a cick-through experiment. I”™d find a track, then try and find another similar artist by clicking through on Spotify, until I found something I really liked. It was pretty good fun, but it”™s got a rather random flow to it. Definitely helps you find stuff you wouldn”™t listen to otherwise, though.
A bit harangued at work today, so I”™ll keep it brief and let the playlist speak for itself.
Morning kids! Monday. Gah-buh-der. What a lovely day to waste sitting indoors, staring mindlessly at a computer screen. Hooray for me!
Today”™s playlist is a combination of songs by bands I”™ve been meaning to check out for a while, some Last.fm recommendations, and some songs by bands I”™ve really liked from other playlists. It”™s got a weird flow to it and is probably a bit more indie than the stuff I”™d normally listen to, but I hope you enjoy regardless.
Dave has returned to Spotisfaction Towers, one more exam behind him. Well done to Dave for passing yesterdays hardship. To celebrate, we”™ve created a joint playlist. The first half is largely quite upbeat. The second half is more chilled. A special mention goes to the track by The Futureheads “Decent Days And Nights”. Two reasons. Firstly, tonight we are going to see the Futureheads. The second reason is “Decent Days And Nights” is the name of the Cheltenham Underground weekend extravaganza. More information on this is here, and no doubt there will be further news posts over the weekend about it.
Anyway, enjoy today. If people could start leaving some feedback the world will be abetter place. See you all Monday.
Stick with today”™s playlist, you might find something you like. Also, if you have any more submissions for us then get them sent in – next week I believe we”™re starting to run guest mixes again – so please share some playlists with us. To all that have submitted, I extend my thanks and I promise that they will be ran shortly.
Dave is sitting his ISCW today. So everyone send him luck and good vibes.
Okay, so the music today. I fancied something a bit different. We kick off this playlist with some music from the other side of the world. Japan, to be exact. Anyone who knows me knows that I can be a huge Japanophile sometimes and one thing that I was a bit upset about was the lack of Japanese music on Spotify. This seems to be changing, slowly but surely.
As for the rest of the list, I have to admit that most of these tracks are new to me.

“Just Like Honey” by The Jesus And Mary Chain kicks this off. I watched Lost In Translation for the first time and really loved the soundtrack. One of the last tracks in the film was this, so I had an urge to listen to it. The rest of the tracks on here are, pretty much, last.fm recommendations with a smattering of tracks that I love but haven”™t heard in a while. Hopefully you”™ll find something you like. So, er, give it a listen.
So, ah, David is currently studying to become some kind of Cisco networking guru. Last I heard he was climbing a mountain in Tibet to learn the art of Zen routing. Good luck to him, I say. You unlucky people have to put up with Thom flavoured Spotisfaction until his return.
Again, todays playlist is just a bunch a tracks that I want to listen to. Nothing else behind it.

Placebo – Spite And Malice
Explosions In The Sky – First Breath After A Coma
M83 – Skin Of The Night
The Album Leaf – Twentytwofourteen
Four Tet – Angel Echoes
Thom Yorke – Atoms For Peace
Radiohead – 2+2=5
Blur – Coffee and TV
Beck – Modern Guilt
Eels – Flyswatter
The Dandy Warhols – Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth
There really isn”™t much of an order to this list. As stated, I just wanted to listen to these tracks. Special mention to Chemical Brothers “Leave Home”, as this track reminds me plenty of my youth. I totally wore out my copy of “Exit Planet Dust” which I had on the magic medium of cassette tape. Explosions In The Sky are one of my favourite bands and “First Breath After A Coma” is probably the track that got me into the band. Finally, Blur”™s classic “Coffee & TV”, which Tom Mitchell taught me to play whilst I was rather drunk at a party on Saturday. Good work, sir.
Anyway, get back to it and I will catch you on the other side.
So no David today, then. Yes, it has been a long weekend. Hope everyone had a good one. Mine was pretty fantastic, there was music, there were parties, there were surprise announcements. Needless to say, I”™m the happiest, luckiest person alive today. So with that in mind, I created the below playlist. It”™s not fantastically upbeat or happy, there is no structure, no elitism or any of that rubbish. It”™s just a few tracks that I haven”™t heard in a while lumped together in Spotisfaction form.

Guys! Massive apologies for being so late with Spotisfaction today – Thom”™s experiencing some technical difficulties with his Spotify, and I got a bit busy at work. No excuses though, we”™re both failhards. Won”™t happen again.
Today is our friend Jo”™s birthday, so huge congratulations from Spotisfaction Towers (well, the David half anyway – Thom will no doubt be offering his own sexy congratulations in person).
In honour of her loveliness, Thom”™s cooked us up a real old-school treat. Honestly, I”™m super excited about hearing this one. I know I”™m biased, but I think it”™s worth the wait!
Bank Holiday weekend, so no Spotisfaction on Monday. Have yourselves a wonderful time, and keep your fingers crossed for me as I”™m away camping and the weather looks like it”™s going to be crap :(
Love, David

Thom says:
This is a rock ”˜n”™ roll news post I am doing for you which is called “Thom writes the news post for Dave. Hit it, Brendan”.
Like an eloquant steam roller I have taken it upon myself to jump in and write on David”™s behalf today. Before I fly wildly out of orbit and into the sun, let”™s talk playlist.
Currently, we”™re waiting for a few more submissions to come through before running any more guest mixes. I can”™t remember if I actually told Dave that or not, but I guess when he reads this he will know. I told him he was running today”™s at about 10AM today, so he had to knock this one out pretty quick as a result. He”™s a sweet young thing, isn”™t he? Still, it”™s a good ”˜un. [Editor”™s note: Truth. This man speaks it]
A quick rundown – I think if there was a war after the break up of At The Drive In, Dave would be in Camp Sparta and I would be on the planet Mars Volta. However, I have never been one to let violent conflict get in the way of listening to great music (and let”™s face it, listening to The Mars Volta is akin to a violent and horrific assault on your ears in the best possible way) and as a result I fully endorse the choice of Sparta. Plus, “While Oceana Sleeps” is also a fantastic track. [Editor”™s note: I love The Mars Volta too, I”™d say I prefer them to Sparta, but this track makes my ears bleed pre-cum]
I put an Asobi Seksu track on my last dreampop/shoegaze playlist and I know for a fact that David is a huge fan. If you missed them, check out “I”™m Happy But You Don”™t Like Me” as it is a good indication of the pure aural wonderment that is Asobi Seksu.
I remember The Cramps. I remember “Fever”. I think this was on The Hangover soundtrack. Which was, let”™s me honest, a fantastic soundtrack. This track now officially reminds me of the worst kind of morning after revenge of the night before. I think I”™m missing a tooth.
I really like the work of Ellen Allien. I have yet to hear this particular track with Apparat remixed by Ben Klock, so I”™m very keen to shoot it up and have a listen. You should be too, David usually has spot on taste in these affairs.
The last one I”™m going to pick out is DJ Food – Dark Lady (Skint Mix). The original is pure Ninja Tune classic. In fact, I believe DJ Food is playing Cheltenham Jazz Festival this year, I”™d recommend you check it out.
All in all then, something for everyone on here. Unless you”™re deaf. In which case you get to read this instead.
Little red top English girl, Spilling out filth but oh so well spoken, It”™s raining but I can”™t even notice that right now Life isn”™t too short for a little rock and roll.
Okay, we have impact. Now, go forth and enjoy today. I will be updating tomorrow with a special “Jo has a birthday, Thom has a day off, bank holiday shirt lifting extravaganza” playlist. Later good people of Earth.
Steamrollers can”™t jump. Thom (From the Desk of David Prowse).
So, Thursday, we meet again. Thom ”˜wrote”™ me a song (read: stole it from Eagles Of Death Metal), and I wanted to share it with you all:
Oh oh oh David Prowse
Gon doo a voodoo until
You feel my power now!
You know I feel so smooth
I”™m always struttin”™ when in motion
Make the little girls dance
Cos”™ i”™m rock n rollin”™
It reallly doesn”™t matter
If you”™re hard to please
Cos”™ when you give me your smile
I”™m yours for straight controllin”™
Oh oh oh David Prowse
Oh oh oh David Prowse
Beautiful.
May Your Days Be Full of Fancy and Wonderment. David

Yes it”™s me again bringing you another playlist for your delectation. If you”™ve listened to or looked at my previous submissions you may have noticed a heavy guitar based indie vibe and this time the guitars are still there but they are playing more of a bluesy riff. Yes that”™s right I am bringing the blues to Spotisfaction with a selection of blues and blues rock
I”™ve had to trim it a fair bit as my first one was well over 2 hours long which I thought might be a bit much. I have a mix of classic blues and blues rock alongside some more modern exponents of the genre. I have tried to stay away from the more depressive blues tracks (yeah I know that”™s quite unlike me) and keep it a bit more upbeat. I have also tried to stick mainly to proper blues artists rather than blues influenced ones (of which there are many) but some have snuck in.
And so on to the tracks themselves”¦..
When deciding what BB King track to choose I saw the When Love Comes to Town and felt I had to include it just for my good friend Thom.
I was going to include the original Derek and the Dominos version of Layla but I like Eric Clapton”™s unplugged version so much I went with that instead and chose a different Derek and the Dominos track.
I heard Girl Is On My Mind by The Black Keys (unfortunately not on Spotify) a couple of years ago and was immediately hooked by their blues sound and went out and got their entire back catalogue.
Whilst True Blood might be yet another modern take on vampire mythology the title track by Jace Everett is a great tune even if a bit more country than blues.
Yeah. So here is today”™s Spotisfaction. It”™s by none other than the man known only as Kevin Atkinson. Listen to it, because you can and right now I can”™t. I ask myself, what would Humphrey DeForest Bogart do in this situation. Probably look slick, smoke and stick his neck out for nobody. Certified cool.
In case you missed it yesterday, here is David and myself on Spotify. Feel free to add us, check out the Spotisfaction submissions and whatever else we”™ve been listening to:
